April 14, 2003
Dear Candidates,
My name is David Lund. I am the Director of Republicans for Civil and
Informed Participation (RCIP). Over the past few days I have had the
opportunity to speak with several of you regarding the published format for
the "Meet the Candidates Night" tomorrow evening. These conversations have
produced a number of suggestions for changes to the format that seem to be
appropriate. A compromise version of these suggestions has been presented to
the RCIP Executive Committee, and it has been approved unanimously by that
body. The following is a list of the changes that have been approved:
1) There will be no straw poll at the end of the evening.
2) The meeting will be extended for an additional half hour, and combined
with the time originally allocated for the straw poll, to be used for direct
interaction between the candidates and the delegates in a "Round Robin"
style mingle. Each candidate will have one minute to travel from station to
station, and four minutes to speak to the delegates within each station.
3) Instead of distributing candidate ratings at the April 26th Organizing
Convention, the RCIP will publish the candidate responses to the
questionnaire without any kind of endorsement from our organization.
We hope that these changes come as welcome news to each of you. We also look
forward to receiving your continued input as to what should be included in
the questionnaire and the questions to be delivered that evening.
For those of you who have not yet responded to our invitation, it is still
not too late to RSVP. We look forward to hearing from each of you.
Thank you very much for all your assistance. If you have any concerns, or if
there is anything I can clarify for you, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
David Lund, Director
Republicans for Civil and Informed Participation (RCIP)
