1. In the past two years, what
would you consider to have been the top three challenges for the Salt Lake
County Republican Party?
- A lack of tolerance towards Republicans
that do not agree with the ultra conservative right.
- Getting delegates to show up for Central
Committee meetings.
- Fostering a sense on the part of
mainstream Republicans that they belong.
2. In your opinion, what will be the
top three concerns facing the party in the next two years?
- Perception by the public, fueled by the
media, that we are extreme right wingers.
- Electing a Republican back into the 2nd
Congressional District seat.
- Winning the statewide elections.
(Governor, Attorney General, etc.)
3. Do you believe that you
sufficiently understand the make-up and operation of the party’s
conventions, Central Committee and Executive Committee to do the job you are
seeking? Why?
Yes, I have been a delegate for 13 years,
Region I Chair, and on the Executive Committee for 8 years.
Candidate for public office 3 times. Chaired the Rules Committee,
the Platform Committee, and the Organizing Committee.
4. Do you believe that you
sufficiently understand the procedural and governing documents of the party?
Why?
Yes, I sat on the Constitution and Bylaws
Committee 5 times under 5 different Chairs. Chaired the Rules
Committee at 2 nominating conventions. Strong knowledge of Utah
election laws and FERC. Region I Chair for 10 years.
5. What special skills or experience
do you possess that qualifies you for the office that you seek?
J.D. (law degree) but not a
practicing lawyer. M.B.A. Strong speaker and debater -- very
thorough knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order. Have been a paid
campaign manager on many campaigns. 40 years active Republican
activities, including County Chair in Idaho, and a 2 time national
delegate.
